A Pipe Cable Locator (PCL) is a device used to locate underground utility lines, such as water, gas, and sewer pipes, as well as electrical cables. The device works by emitting a signal that is picked up by a receiver when it comes into close proximity of the utility line. The signal can be either an audible tone or a radio frequency, and the receiver can be either a hand-held device or a unit that is placed directly on the ground. The PCL can also be used to trace the path of the utility line, and to determine the depth and location of the line.
